Textielreiniger
“Employees being unable to clock in and out for each another: brilliant!”
Whereas unemployment may well be called a global problem, the way in which various governments deal with the issue differs from country to country. In Belgium, the government has chosen to offer its citizens discounts on certain labour-intensive products and services. Karl Huijbrechts, owner of “Textielreiniger” = Textile Cleaner, a chain of drycleaners in the Antwerp area: “Since 2004, the Flemish government has paid two-thirds of the costs of ironing back to citizens. This is great for our sector, interesting for the customer, and it has already helped 45,000 people to a job, mainly women with a low education.”
Partly due to this development, some fifteen employees started their new jobs at Textielreiniger last year. This means a substantial increase of the workforce in our family business, which was launched in the 70s. Karl: “The decision to choose for the installation of a Safescan time registration system has also been responsible for this rapid increase. I have specifically chosen the Safescan TA-850, because this model operates on the basis of fingerprint recognition. To me, it is indeed very important that people are unable to clock in and out for one another, since at most times, there are no supervisors in the shops. We have ‘work premises’ and four shops. And we are seldom there ourselves. Two people at most are always in the shops. They collect the goods from our customers, which are then cleaned at the main premises. So you may compare it a little with a cold and warm baker’s shop.”
Reduction in administration
At the moment, we are using two Safescan TA-850’s, but that will change soon. Karl: “Next week, I want to order time registration systems for all our shops, and for the main premises as well, since we really like its operation very much. The device works perfectly well, and our people were able to use it easily right from the start. The Safescan not only offers security, but also means a reduction in administration. Hourly schedules sometimes suddenly change. If you forget that for a moment, things go wrong with salary calculations. But now I can trust the time registration software that was supplied with the device, which I can read out easily via our network. Absolutely brilliant!”
